The National Honor Society is founded upon four qualities: scholarship, service, character and leadership. Chapter members seek to bring these strengths to every aspect of Gonzaga life, and chapter members are frequently leaders of teams, clubs and other campus activities. NHS members provide tutoring for their peers and frequently serve other special needs in the community.

Gonzaga’s chapter of the National Honor Society invites qualified students from the tenth and eleventh grades each Spring semester to apply for membership. The student will have completed at least three semesters at Gonzaga and have achieved a 3.8 cumulative GPA and have been recommended for membership by the Academic Dean.  Qualified students will be given the application packet which usually involves a review of the young man’s extracurricular activities, references and a request for a personal essay. These materials are completed by the candidates, reviewed by chapter members and faculty. Chapter officers then submit the names of these candidates to the NHS  Faculty Council for election to chapter membership. New members are formally inducted into the chapter at its annual convocation.
