Gonzaga Cross Country Coaching Staff

Head Coach - John Ausema: Coach Ausema took over as head coach in 2007, after serving as assistant coach from 2004-2006.  He was previously head track and cross country coach at a private school in Delaware, and was named New Castle County coach of the year in 1998. Under his direction the team has won 4 WCAC championships.  Contact Coach Ausema

Assistant Coaches:

Walter Krolman - Coach Krolman has 30+ years of experience in coaching distance runners, including a stint with the highly-sucessful Georgetown University program. 

Mark Mashack - Coach Mashack is a 2000 Gonzaga graduate.  He competed in track while in high school, and has more recently become a long-distance runner, competing in area road races.   He also coaches distance runners for the Gonzaga track and field team.

Ariel Laguilles - also in charge of the Gonzaga tennis program, coach Laguilles runs regularly in area marathons and other road races.  He is a certified distance coach by USATF.

Brian Konzman - a Jesuit regent, coach Konzman also teaches math and computer science at Gonzaga.  He ran cross country at Scranton Prep.

Tom Kelly - Tom is a 2007 Gonzaga graduate and former captain and MVP of the cross country team.  After running at Fordham University is living in the DC area and racing with the Georgetown Running Club.

Matt Gatti - Matt is a 2012 Gonzaga graduate and was a member of the varsity cross country while on Eye St.  He is currently training for several long races including a marathon.  Coach Gatti debuted in the marathon this fall with a 2:53.

Head coach emeritis Heather Sanders - Coach Sanders served as head coach for Gonzaga from the mid-90s through 2006.  She competed in multiple marathons as a competative runner in the 80s and 90s.
