Grip It & Rip It Club
It has now been nine (9) years since Gonzaga Water Polo started. During that period, over a 130 young men played water polo during their time at Gonzaga.
As Gonzaga Water Polo continues to grow, it is time we reach out to our alumni and keep them involved. Hence the creation of the "Grip It & Rip It Club."
The Grip It & Rip It Club will have two primary goals:
1) To help defray the costs of running successful Varsity/JV teams
2) Sponsor an annual Alumni water polo game.
3) Sponsor an Alumni/Friend golf outing in the late spring/early summer months.
During the 2009 Season Gonzaga Water Polo reached new heights. The 2009 Varsity team won the “B” bracket of Prep School Eastern’s this fall (beating St. Benedict’s, Germantown Academy and Malvern Prep). This is a major accomplishment for our program; a program that you helped to start. You should take pride in this accomplishment because your hard work and dedication set the course for this major accomplishment.
This spring, we've also started a club team. It practices throughout the spring and summer while competing in U.S. Water Polo and American Water Polo tournaments. It is our goal that this extra work will take us to the next level and keep Gonzaga Water Polo soaring.
At the same time, water polo has really taken hold in the DC metropolitan area. Landon started a team three years ago. Ireton just finished their second season. O’Connell is supposed to have a team this fall and I have heard that DeMatha and Prep are seriously considering starting teams this fall too. During the 2008 season, a new DC Metro league was started and this last season Greenwich High School joined the league (yes, the same Greenwich from Connecticut).
